I'm pretty sure I'm the only one.
Aug. 9th, 2010 12:16 pmI've been watching The Gates.
I knew it was a fools game going in - a Desperate Housewives-clone-with-vampires-and-werewolves starting mid-summer? Total cannon fodder. But I tried it out anyway, and was pleasantly surprised. I still don't expect it to last much longer, mind. But I'm enjoying it in the meantime.
It's not great art, by any means. But it's interesting and well produced. And most importantly, none of the main characters are actively stupid. I fully expected months of the (main) sheriff character floundering around in the dark until some huge reveal. Instead, he found out about the vampires almost immediately. And not all of the crimes he's solving each week are committed by supernatural creatures. It's refreshing for this type of show.
(OK, Andi is annoying me a little - but how she's acting is completely reasonable for a teenage girl who has suddenly found out that she's not human and could accidentally hurt her boyfriend. I can't fault the writers for it, and she's not actually making me want to throw things at the TV or anything.)
