My first! Yesterday I finally went to get an appointment at the tattoo parlor I had googled as one of the best in Philadelphia, for the tattoo that I've been sitting on for the last year. A dragon on the arm is cliched, I know, but it's in honor of my father, despite being in a different style and location. He had his my entire life, and it's an ingrained part of my mental image of him.

The guy manning the desk was this guy, and his portfolio looked good and he got what I was trying for and seems to know what he's doing. I googled him when I got home as a double check of his reputation (that's how I found his FaceBook).

It's custom, which is what I always intended, but he'll be making it sorta-Balinese and I gave him reference samples and the colors I want and such. ("Sorta" because I don't want the intensely detailed scales and headdresses that they typically have, or the bulging eyes. It'll be more "the kind they import to the US as knickknacks" then the real thing, but I decided I could live with that in return for actually liking how it looks FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.) He's going to try to have it wrap around my arm and have wings (both highly preferred, but optional if the design just isn't working), and have a somewhat subtle grayscale background, probably smoke but possibly clouds, water, or abstract. Something easy to add to in a way that looks like it was always meant to be there, in the extremely unlikely event that I should go completely nuts and decide to do more.

In the end it should almost be a half sleeve, but my philosophy of tattoos says that if you're only going to have one, then go big or go home - get something of the highest quality you can that will age well (physically and mentally) and attract attention. Otherwise, what's the point, really?

In the end it should also take about three sessions and run around $500-600 or so, but hey, at least both will be spread out over a few months. Please don't remind me of how poor I am right now, I'm busy ignoring that. D:

Just grabbed the mail from the box, then realized after the fact that I had reached right past an chicken egg-sized wasp nest and the several very industrious wasps who are still working on it. It's probably in everyone's best interest that I find a way to evict them today.

  • My dogs ate my cellphone. D: D: D:
  • I'm unaccountably amused that Fuse is celebrating Earth Day with a Green Day marathon.
  • It kind of bothers me that the minimum length for the Bandom Big Bang is 10,000 words. I know different fandoms have different standards for Big Bangs, but that's hardly a novella, never mind something impressively large. .

ETA: I realized that sounded kind of bad - definitely no insult to the authors or maintainers is intended!  For instance, I read Fngs fr th Mmrs the other day and thought that it was all sorts of awesome. But I noticed it in the BBB community yesterday and was honestly shocked, because I had actually been regretting that it was so short!

ETA2: No, seriously, everyone should go read Fngs fr th Mmrs, even if you're not into Patrick/Andy.

Summary: In which Patrick is a vampire, with a raging caffeine addiction, photophobia, and a poor grasp of the basics of vampirism.

"So, he had a bad time with this guy?" Pete asked, his voice icy. "And you decided to help him out?"

"What?" Joe asked.

The motel room door opened again, and Patrick barged in, sunglasses balanced over the top of his ordinary glasses, and took the coffee out of Pete’s hands.

"Thanks," Patrick said.

Patrick turned to look at Andy, and even through two layers of glasses, Andy would have sworn that Patrick’s eyes were far too bright and sharp, going right through him.

"Andy’s riding in the back with me," Patrick announced, in the kind of voice that no one, except his mother, would argue with.

Patrick pushed his way out of the room, scooping up the last coffee off the counter on the way, and Andy heard him say, "Oh, for fuck’s sake, who ordered all this sunshine? I’m going to get fucking sunburned in New Jersey in March."

"He’s taken all three coffees," Joe said, sounding aggrieved.

"Do you still think I took advantage of him?" Andy asked Pete.

"Only in the way that Gaul took advantage of Attila the Hun," Pete said. "By not have adequate defenses."

Who cares, he's your least favorite Jonas anyway.

It can't possibly be worse then that Kris Allen is the Pink Power Ranger fic you read last night.*

Since when are you trolling for Jonas Brothers fanfic? You don't even like their music!

Do you seriously expect this to work? You've never managed yet to post a poll that does, even using the Poll Creator tool.

*Conceptually, that is. The fic itself was actually pretty good.

This is why I need the fucking meds in the first place. I have such a headache too.

Warning: waaaaaay too much text.

In which insurance is a pain in the ass. )

In which I am an asshole to my pets. )

In which I am an asshole to my mom. )

I'm currently baking a cake. Maybe it will help balance my karma with the universe or something.

You gotta love the Fancy Brigades!

Thank goodness for nighttime shows for those of us who sleep through the parade.

ETA: Hopefully the makers of Halo aren't watching the South Philly Vikings right now. Somehow I don't think they paid royalties. :)

Merry Christmas/winter celebration of your choice, be it recently over or yet to come/Yultide to all!

I really do live in a zoo.

As of today, my small two bedroom house contains:

+ Four medium-sized dogs (three of my own; one dog that my ex-husband took that I fought like hell to get visitation rights for in the divorce, here for a week)
+ Five cats (three of my own; two belonging to the houseguest who is staying with me for a couple of months)
+ Two adult humans.

For the record, two humans, four dogs, and one cat can all fit comfortably on one standard-sized sofa. I fear the arrival of another cat, however.

Panera's new macaroni and cheese is obscenely good. According to the lady at the front counter, they've sold out of it every day since it was introduced last Thursday. (Oddly, I didn't see it listed on the main site. Is New Jersey a test market for it, maybe?)

This is hypnotic. I especially enjoyed playing with the plant, fire, and concrete settings.

I knew going in that it would be tough to find a rental that will take six pets. It's still a depressing process, though, and I'm feeling poor today which doesn't help.

I love that LabCorp lets you make online appointments now. The waiting room has gone from "always packed" to "usually pretty empty".

I need a baby so that I can dress them in this coat. And EXPLODE FROM THE ADORABLE.

Boys will probably want to skip. )

Just felt the need to complain, sorry.

risha: Tom Conrad (Tomrad)
I'm going to the Empires show in Philly tonight! Am ridiculously excited, as they are easily my favorite band that I've discovered via bandom, and rank high on my "favorite indie bands" list overall.

(A little below them comes The Academy Is..., and I quite like the 504 Plan EPs I downloaded. Apparently Tom Conrad and I share the same taste in music.)

Today, I naively assumed that my brain chemistry was back to normal. But now I'm working up to a migraine. :(
