My friends lists these days are overflowing with massive (and well deserved) Criminal Minds love. And yet good fanfic remains frustratingly hard to find. Rather than commenting yet again as yet another person discovers the series, I thought that I'd actually post my recommendation here.

Defect by kikkimax (also here) features a pre-Hell Dean Winchester caught by the FBI; the problem is, the BAU is needed to figure out what crimes he's actually guilt of. Gen.

The characterizations are spot-on for both series, and it's fabulous to view Dean through the agents' eyes.

The sequel is Hell, and Back.

While I'm here, another great CM/SPN crossover is Haunted Minds by buffyaddict13, in which the BAU investigates what happened at Cold Oaks. Unfortunately, it's a WIP and seems to be on indefinite hiatus.

Despite my well-established SGA love, and therefore in defiance of fandom's collective disdain, I have been watching Stargate Universe. It's not half bad, actually. I'd be really into it and think it was moderately great if I didn't hate every single character. (Except Eli, who is exactly the kind of character I normally hate - see Greg Grunberg's character on Heroes - so I don't expect my slightly-better-then-indifference to last).

And I hate every member of the Senator's family at least twice as much as everyone else. Shut up, selfish people, your emo is not that important compared to survival, national security, or even everyone else's emo suffering.

(Yes, seriously, three posts in one day. I know.)

I just noticed that Empires is playing three shows in NYC and Philadelphia next week. I don't usually (or, well, ever) go into the city for small shows at clubs. But as they're by far my favorite group I've been introduced to since joining bandom, and they seem to stick mostly to the Midwest, there's no way I'm not going to one of them.

The only question is which: the NYC and Brooklyn shows are much closer, but I need to head down in the general Philly direction for house hunting sometime soon, it's a weekend instead of weekday night, and there's a good chance that I can talk my brother and RoShawnda into coming with me. I'm leaning towards the latter. (Besides, Philly smells better then NYC.)

Oh, uh, hi SGA-people. *waves* I guess I forgot to mention that I joined bandom recently? As you know, I don't normally do the RPF thing, but I somehow got sucked in back in August - I don't even remember how anymore.

I don't like Glee.

I'm sorry - I tried! I love musicals, and I love dark and/or subversive comedies.

But I don't like many of the characters, and it seems like the more I dislike them, the more screen time they get. And the ones I do like, such as Puck, are still pretty shallow.

Every single one of the plot lines are boring me to tears. I started fast forwarding through parts quite a few episodes ago, and I'm down to just watching the musical numbers (which I do enjoy), and about two minutes total of the rest of it, in roughly 30 second snippets at a time. I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything as a result - so far, I've been able to follow what's happening without a problem.

And the timeline is driving me crazy! I've forgiven the instant perfection of the singing, background music, and choreography, on the basis of it being a conceit of the whole musical genre. But I can't figure out how many months(?) are supposed to have passed. When are sectionals anyway? At the end of the school year? general spoilers ) This is hurting my head.
