God, Mom

If you:

- say shit about how "uppity" my (black) sister-in-law is,
- and give her crap about her cornrows,
- and complain about her wanting to go to dinner right away instead of waiting around with my newborn nephew for three hours until the nicer restaurant opens,
- and complain about how terrible a mother she is because she asks my brother to run upstairs to check on the baby,
- and that she shouldn't believe the pediatrician that the rash isn't anything to worry about (while implying that she is lying about even asking him),
- and that she's sponging off my brother because you think she's probably not going back to work after three months (even though she says that she is, and anyway they could swing her being a stay-at-home mom if she decides she wants to be),
- and sneak smokes near the baby even though they've requested you smoke outside

You really don't get to bitch to me for a half an hour about her being "cold" to you, and no, you're not bending over backwards to be nice to her.

Guess why my (gay) cousin Brian doesn't really want to hang out with you either. No, it's not because he makes "bad decisions".

*drools*

OH MY GOD. Why do I have nowhere to wear one of these to?

I'm thinking this:

but I wouldn't kick this out of bed:

Devastated

According to Neil Gaiman, Diana Wynne Jones, one of the best fantasy writers of all time, has died. I knew she had cancer and had ceased chemotherapy last year, but it's still the kind of news you hope never to hear.

I would say that I hope to look that good at her age, but I've never looked that good.

Vote to get Empires on the cover of Rolling Stone! Oh, and onto Jimmy Fallon. And play Bonaroo. And they get signed. Stuff like that.

Hi!

Here, have a random reminder of how awesome Empires is:

Are you excited as I am that they're recording new music as we speak (thank you for the stalking help, Twitter)? You know you are!

Speaking of which, I saw Lights Resolve on tour with Empires, and they were great. Great enough that I actualfax told them that when I ran into them in the Empires audience, and I never speak to the bands when I get the chance - I'm way too shy! Album coming soon, and I'm definitely there. Here's the brand new trailer.

Oh, FUCK.

Not Kubica. D:

(Not that I wouldn't be unhappy if it were any driver, but Kubica's been my favorite for a lot of years now.)

And a happy Yule, Solstice, Kwanzaa, and all of the other holidays and days of remembrance this past or coming week.

Have a selection of my favorite Christmas music:
as youtube videos, sorry. )

And let's let Gerard sing us out:

I was just organizing my Holiday playlist, and apparently I own 43 versions of Carol of the Bells.

(44 if you count my copy of Carol of the Old Ones.)

Also, I must share the pain: I ran across this while searching "Щедрик" (Shchedryk) on YouTube (ETA: If you can't take it anymore, still be sure to fast forward to the last couple of minutes to take a look at the judges.):

Oh man, awesome, Fox Movie Channel is showing The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. Crazy obscure. Unless you're a big Gene Wilder / Marty Feldman / Madeline Kahn fan, of course.

I'm always irrationally annoyed by commercials for acne systems like Proactive or Skin ID. All of them are benzoyl peroxide based, which I'm allergic to. Yes, I can have clear skin via a little tube of cream from the drug store - but I wouldn't be able to see my nice clear skin with my eyes swelled completely shut.

I think the source of my irritation is that they make it sound like they can help anyone and everyone, which, no.

Assuming the unlikely scenario that anyone my friends list doesn't already have it:

By the time I bought my concert ticket (Atlanta! 3 hours away, but completely worth it), I had already pre-ordered the deluxe version of Danger Days. Buying a ticket, however, came with a free album download. First come, first served, on the understanding that:

1. I make no guarantees, since I haven't wanted to click in to see if you need to enter my credit card number or something to redeem it, and

2. If you win the drawing for the Meet and Greet with the band and you're not attending the Atlanta show, you let me have it.

Comments screened so that I can cut and paste the link and code and such without anyone else seeing it.

Huh.

For the first time ever, the dogs' obsessive overprotectiveness potentially paid off. Sebastian started howling and barking in the backyard, so I went to bring him inside and rescue whatever cat or deer had caught his attention. A minute later some guy dressed in black dashed out from behind a large tree (in the dark woody area back beyond my fence/property) and took off running like hell hounds were behind him.

Guys, [livejournal.com profile] werewolfbigbang has been putting out a highly improbable amount of excellent fic, and I can't continue not to share. A large percentage of it has been bandom (in fact, all of my recs are at least partially MCR), but there was a lot of other stuff in the mix too, including original fiction, and a couple of rare fandoms (The Mighty Boosh? Seriously?). I couldn't find an officially listed end date, but as the last story went up back on the 13th, I assume posting is complete.

It took me about five minutes staring at my screen to decide what was going to be my top rec. Gut wrenching realism? Or shockingly unexpected fantasy? It was a seriously tough call.
